charpy pendulum impact test requirements for wind turbine generator system foundation anchor bolt assemblies

Charpy Impact Test, also known as the charpy V-notch test, is a standardized high strain-rate test which determines the amount of energy absorbed by a material during fracture. This absorbed energy is a measure of a given material’s notch toughness and acts as a tool to study temperature-dependent ductile brittle transition.

DSC_1242Anyang Longteng Heat Treatment Material Co.,Ltd (LT) is a professional manufacturer for wind turbine generator system foundation anchor bolt assemblies. We produce highperformance anchor bolt especially that with specific technical requirements.

Impact Test is always one of the most important test for acceptance inspection.

We have advanced testing machines for charpy pendulum impact test for impact test to support quality control system(see the pic on the left).

According to ISO 898-1:2013, minimum value of impact energy for a V-notch test piece should be 27 J.

In reality, LT can reach the value higher than 45J.

Thus, during the cooperation with some customers, we sign the technical requirements with much higher standard.

One customer’s requirements:

                                                                       Impact Energy at -40℃

Property Class Avg. value of Impact Energy,

J

Min. value of impact energy,

J

8.8 ≥60 ≥40
10.9 ≥35 ≥25

What is absorbed energy?

K

Energy required to break a test piece with a pendulum impact testing machine, after correction for friction

KV

The letter V or U is used to indicate the notch geometry, that is KV or KU. The number 2 or 8 is used as a subscript to indicate the radius of the striker, for example KV2.

V-notch

The V-notch shall have an included angle of 45°, a depth of 2mm and a root radius of 0.25mm
